Open Water

After years of focusing on landscapes, I’ve started working on a new series – sailboats. It’s a pretty natural shift for me. Although plein air painting isn’t possible with moving subjects, I’ve sailed in both large and small boats in almost every conceivable weather condition, so I imagine myself in the boat as I paint it. Makes it so much more fun! And with plenty of photographs from my dad, my daughter and my own collection, I have subject matter to work from for years to come. That’s not to say I wouldn’t be happy to do some commissions. If you have a boat to offer as subject matter, just let me know. Here’s a preview of some recent pieces.

Also, the Edmonds Art Walk is this Thursday evening! I'll be at Bluefish Designs, 425 5th Avenue between 5:00 and 8:00 with a selection of plein air paintings and perhaps a few boat paintings. Come by and see me! If you can't make it this week, the paintings will be there until March 15.
